*On Budget
When working out a price for custom orders I factor in a lot of different variables to make a price both cost effective for the client and worthwhile for me to do. I have realised though that people come to me with a very rough idea of what they would be happy to spend on such an item. An example would be someone who has a budget of $2000 for a leather backpack vs someone who has a budget of $500. Both would be handstitched and made using durable Australian leather but the $2000 one would most likely have a leather or canvas lining, it would have more internal and external pockets, more expensive hardware, padded straps and whatever else the client wants. A $500 backpack will still be just as durable but it will be a very basic design and possibly smaller without all the pockets, bells and whistles the more expensive one would have.
Keep in mind, sometimes I will not be able to make what you want with the budget you have but by telling me what your budget is I may be able to offer a solution suitable to your budget such as using a different leather that is cheaper due to it being chrome tanned vs vegetable tanned.
I don’t always pick the top end of the clients budget. It depends completely on the budget and the design.
If you ask for a quote with a budget and I can’t do it within that and I give you the lowest price I can do it for but that is to expensive for you your are totally welcome to say ‘sorry I can’t do it’ or ‘let me think about it and get back to you’ or ‘can you wait for my next pay cycle’. That is totally fine. I have had people come a year later after the initial quote wanting their idea made (the price will have gone up a bit).
Hopefully that helps you understand and helps me meet your expectations.
